Mason County Democratic Central Committee Platform 2008

(adopted May 14, 2008 by MCDCC)

Preamble

Mason County Democrats believe in a participatory government that supports freedom of thought and expression, ethical behavior from our elected officials, and human rights for all people. We support quality public education, economic development that respects the worker and does not degrade the environment, full reproductive rights, taxes for the social good, and access to affordable healthcare for all.

We also support the Washington State Democratic Party platform that rests on the principles that there should be:

  • Security for all citizens;
  • Education, jobs, and economic opportunity for all;
  • Accessible and affordable health care for all;
  • A rebuilding of our reputation in the world as a cooperative and just country;
  • A reversal of the erosion of civil liberties in our country;
  • A recognition that diversity strengthens our nation; and
  • A recognition that we are responsible for our ethical, economic, environmental and educational legacy;
  • And, we support the six point National Democratic Party vision of
  • Honest Leadership and Open Government
  • Real Security
  • Energy Independence
  • Economic Prosperity and Educational Excellence
  • A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone
  • Retirement Security

We adopt this platform to ensure that voters and candidates for public office understand and support our goals.

A. Economics: Democrats believe that economic justice is the foundation for healthy communities, healthy families, and a prosperous nation and world.
