In anticipation of a ground swelling, grass roots effort for the 2012 election--with the re-election of President Obama at its core--OFA is expanding in Mason and Kitsap Counties. Those of us who have been with the campaign since 2008 (and after as NNN, the Neighbor to Neighbor Network --working through Health Care reform and the 2010 election) are delighted to see our ranks grow. We are reenergized with new members and one returning member, John Kreienkamp.We continue to register voters, make calls, train volunteers, hold house meetings, and message message message, accomplishments of the Obama administration. The way it works is as follows: (1) We use Votebuilder to make calls to supporters, ask them if they are behind the President (96% say yes), ask them if they want to help on the campaign, and if they say yes, (2) set up a meeting with them. (3) We meet with them and from these conversations we have organized canvasses and house meetings which will culminate in our Halloween Day of the Dead Party at the Neumeisters on November 2 to which we are coming as political issues or people or professions—with a focus on the Jobs Act.
In Mason County:
- Brian and Libby have joined us. Libby set up the phone bank at Maple Glen.
- Brian and Wendy joined 5 others for a voter registration canvass;
- Theresa (coming to us from OFA Montana) registered voters with Laurel and Larry and John Kreienkamp in front of the post office;
- Barbara and Teri participated in a table voter registration drive in Belfair during our weekend of action and Linda Thomson joined us.
- And I just met with Sarah, who will fit us in as best she can with her life as a nutritionist/mother of a two year old.
In Kitsap County:
- I called and met with Susan, who immediately set up a meeting at her house with neighbors;
- Than, While training Susan to use Votebuilder, her first phone call was fortuitous and surprising! Ellen said "yes" she wanted to volunteer! So Susan and John and I met with her and brought her into the fold.
- Two other potential members of the Kitsap team are Sean (of Olympic college) and Melanie
- The Kitsap team is having a meeting at Susan's on the 27th at 3:30 and will join the Mason county team at the Neumeisters on the night of the day of the Dead o n November 2.
