Notes From The Chair

The speaker this month at the 6pm discussion on the 8th is Dean Foster. He will be explaining the redistricting process. After all this time, that process is done. See the new map in the office at 7th and Franklin. You may want to get to the PUD #3 conference room early as this could be a standing room only event!

Speaking of the office, there is a need for help on Sat, Mon, Wed and Fri. You will not be wasting your time. The list of tasks is long and will give everyone the ability to work to your strengths. Compared to the other party we have a bit of catching up—one of our opponents has been out door belling since the last election. A good working computer is ready, but bring your own if you have one, also good working phone lines. Plans for using all the latest techniques for keeping folks informed are being developed, and some of the old tried and true methods as well.

I want to thank all Democrats who helped make our Holiday Party a successful intimate event. Especially Marilyn and Doug Sayan, Laurie and Larry King, and a number of others. We had a short business meeting approving the date and place for the Kennedy Dinner.

One interesting item I had reinforced during dinner conversation was we may not be doing as good a job communicating with members as we should. To help correct this I will be calling all PCO's to get their input and I and others will be working through the list we have of Democrats asking for your ideas about the party and what we all can do to get good people elected next year. Please help us with this survey, also I would be very pleased to receive any comments, by snail mail or otherwise.

Thanks to over 27 great Democratic supporters, we opened our office at 327 W Franklin St. on Thursday, December 1. Just to say thanks is a totally inadequate way to express our appreciation for this help!

It is less than a year from the date we will all be working towards. As mentioned before I will begin contacting all the folks we have listed as being Democrats to ask for your support at what ever level you can give. I will also be contacting PCOs looking for your support. It will take a supreme effort from everyone to keep the office adequately staffed for the next 12 months. Please accept my invitation to drop by and make suggestions on how best to elect all our Democrats in 2012.

If you have any interest in learning more about what is going on in Mason County you are missing out if you do not attend our discussion groups that start at 6pm. The next presenter will be Karen Herr who will talk about the up coming election and possible changes. The location is the usual place at the PUD #3 office, 9th of November.

Last month Jeanette Boegl, Pat Carpenter and Donna Hamilton from the League of Women Voters presented the results of the League's "Study of County Advisory Boards." They outlined concepts on these boards purpose, statutory authority, structure, meeting process, oversight public outreach and member training. I'm on MTA's board and found I had a lot to learn from the report's conclusions and recommendations. I want to thank the three listed above for the presentation and Pat Kevin for making sure we are having good discussion sessions.
