The next meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club is scheduled for January 21, 2010—gosh where did the year go?   As we mentioned last month, we won’t be meeting separately in December but rather are co-hosting the Holiday Party with the Central Committee on December 9th at the Memorial Hall in Shelton.  Check the newsletter for details about the party or give Linda Amar (427-1651) or me (426-7440) a call for more information.

Last month, Representative Kathy Haigh spoke to us about the upcoming legislative session. Her comments centered around funding necessary for the educational system, kindergarten through higher education.  As Chair of the House Appropriations Sub-Committee on Education, Kathy expressed concern about the negative impact the budget shortfall undoubtedly will have on education.  She shared various ideas being proposed which could potentially limit further cuts, especially in the higher education institutions.
The budget shortfall obviously will be the most challenging issue facing the legislature throughout the session.

I hope you had a joyous and peaceful Thanksgiving full of food and friends.  And, I look forward to seeing you on December 9th at the Holiday Party.  It sounds like it will be a fun time again this year—both in terms of good food and great entertainment!  See you there.

Peace,
Marilyn Sayan
