The next regular meeting of the Mason County Democratic Women’s Club is set for Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at El Sarape in Gateway Center. The no-host lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program following a brief business meeting at noon.
This month, State Representative Kathy Haigh will speak to the group about the upcoming Legislative session and her take on the issues which will be coming forward in January. She’s working on a number of issues, especially in the higher education arena, which should be of interest. And, as always, Rep. Haigh will respond to questions we may have. I’m sure it will be an informative session and one you won’t want to miss.
Last month. Cheryl Cathcart, Executive Director of Turning Pointe-Domestic Violence Services, spoke to the group about the new DV Shelter in Mason County. Cheryl noted that the Shelter which opened in December 2008 is one of the largest in the State and has operated at full capacity since its opening. She talked about the various services provided to domestic violence victims and the programs available to those clients. As is the case with other non-profit organizations, the funding for the Shelter is dependent on grants and other community fund-raising activities. Cheryl shared her appreciation for the support our community has shown the program to date but stressed that continued support is essential. To find out more about Turning Pointe services and the kinds of support needed, go to www.turningpointe.org.
We will not hold a meeting in December but rather will co-host the annual holiday party with the Mason County Democratic Central Committee. The party is set for Wednesday, December 9 at the Shelton Memorial Hall. More information about the party is included elsewhere in this newsletter.
Hope you’re able to come hear Representative Haigh on November 18th and that you’ll plan to attend the holiday party in December.
Peace,
Marilyn Sayan
