The next meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2009. We meet at El Sarape in Gateway Center at 11:30 for lunch with the program following a short business meeting at noon. This month, Cheryl Cathcart, Executive Director of Turning Pointe, our local domestic violence shelter, will talk about the shelter and domestic violence issues in Mason County.
I believe you’ll be surprised to hear some of the information Cheryl has to share with us.
Last month, Theresia Ehrich, Chief Accountant for County Auditor Karen Herr, shared information about Mason County’s 2010 Preliminary Budget and discussed some of the various agency proposals. She noted that for the first time, the Commissioners had agreed to hold briefing meetings on individual budget requests from the various county departments and she provided a copy of the tentative agenda for those briefings scheduled on October 5 and 6, 2009. Although the Commissioner’s proposed schedule provides only limited time for presentation by each of the various departments, it is hoped that the Commissioners will provide adequate time for citizen questions and input during the briefings. The Commissioners need to hear from Mason County residents before they make their final decisions on next year’s budget so hopefully the hearings will be well attended.
Come to our meeting on October 21st and we’ll hear about Turning Pointe and then talk more about what did or did not occur during the budget briefings!
Peace,
Marilyn Sayan
