The next meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club is scheduled for September 16, 2009.  Because of schedules, etc., we will not hold a meeting in August.  We’ll get information out about the September meeting in the next newsletter.

Last month, we heard from a panel composed of County Auditor Karen Herr, County Treasurer Lisa Frazier, and County Commissioner Ross Gallagher.  They explained various aspects of the budgeting process used by the County and answered questions about the current status of the budget.  Because the County Budget Officer position has been eliminated, Auditor Herr will be responsible for pulling together next year’s County budget.  She shared a document outlining a proposed budgeting process she prepared for the Commissioners’ consideration.  Although the Commissioners will have the final say as to how the next budget cycle will be approached, all in attendance felt the Auditor’s proposal was an excellent way for the County to have a more orderly process for the various departments to prepare their budget submissions, especially since it provides for essential public review and input very early in the process.
