Upcoming Events

The next meeting of the Democratic Women's Club is set for Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at El Sarape Restaurant; the no-host luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program immediately follows a short business meeting at noon. Cheryl Cathcart, Executive Director of Turning Pointe, our Domestic Violence Shelter, will talk about their services as well as what's going on there in view of the recent budget shortfalls and how the organization intends to overcome those issues. Come and learn more about what you can do to help address domestic violence in Mason County. I sincerely hope you'll attend the meeting.

Last month Judge Amber Finlay of the Mason County Superior Court spoke with us about the activities of the Court. She talked about the various issues that the Court addresses on a daily basis and about the varied task forces she works with to improve the system. Her willingness to comment about her approach to the job and the "human face" she put on her work as a judge was most enlightening and actually renewed my faith in the judicial system. Hopefully others felt the same way.

Following Judge Finlay's comments, we talked about how our organization can assist in the efforts to re-elect President Obama. Marcia Hamilton of Organizing for America (OFA) said that right now OFA needs help in ensuring voters are registered to vote. She encouraged anyone willing to help with that effort to contact her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to volunteer.

I hope to see you on November 16th!
