Upcoming Events

The Democratic Women's Club will meet on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at El Sarape Restaurant in Gateway Center. A no-host luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program following a short business meeting at noon. Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell will join us to talk about the responsibilities his office carries.

At our April 20th meeting, Mason County Sheriff Casey Salisbury, accompanied by Chief Deputy Dean Byrd, gave a power-point presentation detailing the operations of the Sheriff's Office. He explained that the office employs 49 commissioned and 44 non-commissioned staff; of those, 28 are patrol deputies and 7 are supervisors. He talked about the varied responsibilities of the office including Patrol, Investigations, SWAT Team, Traffic, Animal Control, Search and Rescue, Boating Safety, Courthouse Weapons Screening, and Jail Operations as well as the Civil Division which is responsible for the service of court documents. It was an informative session and we all learned a lot more about all they do to help keep the community safe.

Next month's meeting should be a good one as well, especially since Wes has promised not to dead-pan the issues! See you on May 18th.

Peace,
Marilyn Sayan
