At our meeting on January 19th, Shelton Schools Superintendent Joan Zook met with to us explain the need for support of the upcoming school levies for Shelton, Pioneer and Southside School Districts. She talked in general terms about what has not been sufficiently funded by the State in the areas of special education, classroom size, bussing and other things viewed as part of a basic education, noting that the levies were desperately needed to help lessen the effects of the budget shortfall. She then spoke specifically about the Shelton School District's levy proposal. Joan candidly answered questions from the group about the effect of the continued budget cuts on school districts and urged all to work to support the levies in this time of reduced funding. It really was a very informative meeting. (Note: At the January 12th meeting, members of the County Central Committee adopted a resolution showing support of the levies.)
Next month's meeting should be as interesting and informative as last month's so I hope you'll make an effort to attend. And bring your $15 dues for 2011!
Peace,
Marilyn
