The next meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at El Sarapé in Gateway Center. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by a short business meeting at noon. After that, the County budgeting process will be discussed by a panel consisting of Auditor Karen Herr, Treasurer Lisa Frazier and Commissioner Ross Gallagher.

Last month, State Representative Fred Finn spoke to the group about his experiences during his first legislative session. He noted that it was a difficult session, especially in light of the many budget cuts required to most programs and departments. On a positive note, Fred talked of the private/public partnership that will support the continued operation of the fish hatchery, the many transportation projects underway with the assistance of the Federal stimulus money, and the maintenance of the Children’s Health Initiative. He spoke in detail about his recent trade mission to China, noting that Washington State is more trade dependent than other states. He then responded to various questions raised from the floor. From all appearances, Fred seems to have survived the difficult session and now is back at work locally on issues affecting the 35th Legislative District..

Hope you’re able to come to the July 15th meeting to hear from our local County officials about the budgeting process. It should be an interesting and informative session!
