Greetings Fellow Democrats,

Hi, I’m Marcie Lohmeyer, your candidate for Mason County Assessor.  I would really like to thank the Mason County Democrats for naming me as their nominated candidate for this position.  Your confidence in me means a lot.  I would love to have the support and endorsement of the organization as well.  Meanwhile, I would like to share my goals for the Assessor’s Office.

One of my priorities will be to implement the Annual Re-Evaluation Cycle sooner than is mandated by law which will not be until 2014 or even later.  Currently, our county re-assesses property values once every four years.  A ratio study would be performed by our office and new property values would be established annually which would reflect the current market activity in the county.  The taxpayers have expressed their desire to have property values in line with the current market conditions instead of those of several years ago.  This will require a new computer system which the current assessor has already started implementing.  Additional training from the Department of Revenue will be required as well.

Secondly, I will bring forth a new and fresh perspective in communicating with the public.  I will continue to operate a “taxpayer friendly” office, provide more literature and public communication about the assessment process, appeal process and various exemption programs available to the taxpayers for property tax relief.

Additionally, office efficiency is the key to achieving my goals.  I will reallocate duties and functions within the office to areas where we are understaffed to better serve the public and implement the Annual Re-Evaluation Cycle.  This would bring more uniformity to property values assessments across the county and improve office performance.

I always strive to do my best at any job before me.  The real estate community knows I am capable and reliable.  The public can always count on me to answer any questions or concerns they may have in a timely, respectful and courteous manner.

I have been a public servant most of my working career and will continue to do so until I retire.  I plan to run for more than one term if elected, to continue to see my goals come to fruition.  I want to restore the public’s trust in the assessment process.
